I finished Mona Lisa Overdrive and the ending was... uh... well, I really enjoyed the book overall, and I loved the way all the subplots came together to form a satisfying whole in the end! I've now got Gibson's Bridge Trilogy on my Kindle. I read those 3 books as a late teen & don't remember much from them, except that Chevette made me excited for biking, haha. I'm excited to rediscover them as an adult.

I started reading Laziness Does Not Exist by Devon Price. So far, it is really, really good. I feel very seen & heard when the author talks about the 'laziness lie' that has been fed to us all, and the evils of capitalism and toxic productivity. I was hoping I'd enjoy the book, and while some parts of it are a little difficult to read, I'm glad I finally got started with it.

This month I am trying to budget more. I know, boring adulthood stuff, but so far it's going okay. I really need to save up for a new phone, mine is now 6 years old and on its last legs, unfortunately.

A few hours ago this morning I went running, and discovered to my annoyance that the Couch to 5K app is no longer free, but now costs $15 a year. I hate subscription-based payments with a burning passion, but the app is really good and useful, so I might actually cough up the money. My run was very slow, as always, but really nice. I'm starting back over with the program, so I am in Week 1 again. This is fine, because I haven't kept up with my fitness goals all winter, and need to start slow.

Writing-wise, I'm still working on my NaNo '23 project, which is a sci-fi arranged marriage story with a conspiracy to kill one of the protagonists thrown in. I made it to about the midpoint last November, and I am currently editing and rewriting what I've got so far. Progress has been slow, plus this story is in German, and it's so strange to write something in my mother tongue again after... *checks notes*... about 20 years of nothing but English. It feels good too, though, not just odd. I really hope I'll stick with this story and perhaps even finish it some day soon-ish.

I finished Count Zero! It was wonderful. Bobby is one of my favorite characters in the whole Sprawl trilogy. He's so relatable and unpretentious. The end gave me a shocked Pikachu face though, because I didn't remember the way the plot sort of turns in on itself and eats its own tail like an ouroboros snake. Overall, this is the Sprawl Trilogy book I remembered the least, so I'm very happy I got to reread it. I'm launching straight into Mona Lisa Overdrive now (KUMIKOOO).

My Swedish exam is done and I passed! I'm very happy and relieved. :D An acquaintance of mine did not pass, but she'll go for her second attempt in March & I'll be crossing my fingers for her. I hope she passes then; she's the closest thing to a friend I've made in that class. We might be going out for coffee soon, since she moved and now lives nearby.

I have taken to having a map of Brazil open on my computer 24/7 because I'm reading a book about Brazilian history, and since I know nothing about geography and the maps in the book are few and far between, I like checking which region the book is talking about at any given moment. I know woefully little about South America in general :/ I remember learning about the Treaty of Tordesillas in school, but that was when I was about 13-14 and had little to no interest in history, so I spent most of my history classes drawing anime characters. My genuine interest in history started when I was about 15 and we got a new teacher, who was amazing and had no tolerance for bullshit from my more raucous classmates. \o/

Anyway, Brazilian history is fascinating. I learned that the country is named for its redwood trees, which is super cool, and that Dom Pedro II was only fourteen when he became Emperor post-independence. Wow. (I learned many other things too but those are the two that impressed me the most so far.) The book is very densely written, there's a lot of information in each sentence, plus the author speaks, like, Advanced German and regularly uses absolutely wild words that I have to look up. But it's really fun. I'm using a different highlighter color for each chapter & I get ridiculously excited every time I get to change the color.

Watching: various things! Game of Thrones, for one--I started my rewatch with S1 and I'm surprised by how many things I still remember at least vaguely. Also, The Killing, with the roommate. One of the best crime shows I've ever seen, ahhh.

Reading: William Gibson's Count Zero (on Audible).

Listening: Unbelievers by Vampire Weekend

Playing: nothing right now! Smh. I need to buy a controller so I can get started on Lies of P.

Making: way too many knitting WIPs. Off the top of my head, I've got:
* a cowl
* two pairs of socks
* an unidentified number of sweaters (I legit can't remember how many there are--this should worry me more)
* two scarves
Oof. I wish I had several extra sets of hands.

Feeling: VERY RELIEVED. I had a phone call earlier today & a bureaucratic problem I had just vanished into thin air. Well, not quite--I still need to do some paperwork, but the issue is not nearly as life-ruining as I'd thought it would be. So I have just been in a puddle of relief the whole day.

Planning: some general home/life improvement shit. I want to get some higher-end cleaning supplies, for instance, and I'd like to get around to reorganizing our spice cabinet soon. I've also wanted to get into meal planning for ages.

Loving: listening to more music. I've been making an effort to use Spotify more and so far it's working out great.
