derry: (dinosaurs exploding)
Knitting continues to be a lot of fun! I'm even trying out new things and patterns, instead of ye olde garter-stitch scarves over and over again. (Not that there's anything wrong with garter stitch. It's lovely!) And I've even started crocheting again. \o/

Back in 2015 when I first got into crochet, I started making a granny square blanket. (I started crocheting before I picked up knitting because I couldn't figure out how to purl stitches.) I remember sitting at my PC, watching Markiplier play Outlast and cussing up a storm while stabbing furiously at my way-too-tight double-crochets. Originally I wanted to make a rainbow blanket, with all sorts of colors, but I couldn't find some hues (green mostly, though the pink department was also lacking), so in the end I decided to make two blankets instead, one in fall colors (red, orange, yellow) and one in cooler colors (lilac, purple, blue).

... And then I didn't touch the project for almost 6 years. Oops. Well, I've picked it back up now, starting with the fall-themed blanket, and I'm going to arrange the colors in a gradient! I will also put a big block of dark red on one side; it's become a bit of a stash-busting project, in which I'll hopefully use some of the absolutely gargantuan ball of dark red acrylic yarn I bought ages ago & forgot about.

At first I thought joining all these granny squares would be a pain in the ass, but it's actually a lot of fun. I've found an invisible seaming technique I really like (link below) & that works very well for me.

I've filled my Instagram feed with knitting and bullet journaling accounts & the app has finally given me some serotonin again. It's just wildly inspiring to see what everyone else is making, and my bookmarked posts are full of patterns and tutorials.

The one thing I do have to be careful about is my hands & arms! I've had tendonitis before, and yesterday I had some weird finger pain that made me anxious about possibly developing some form of arthritis (??? I'm only 32 but also a huge hypochondriac). Plus, carrying too much tension sets off my hair-trigger migraines. I need to make an effort to stretch and relax more.

Projects on my to-do list:
  • A reboot of a sweater I started to knit in 2017. I am now too chonk for the size I chose at the time, so I frogged the old WIP (oddly satisfying) and will re-knit a larger version of it.
  • A black cardigan. Again, I've gotten too dummy thicc for all my old (store-bought) cardigans, and I need something simple and black that'll combine well with all sorts of outfits.
  • Swedish flag granny square blanket, just because of my love for Sweden (and my Swedish godmother <3)
  • Sunburst granny square blanket with ~*SUNFLOWERS*~
  • More headbands probably? Stash-busting ftw!

... and don't even get me started on all the things I want to sew. I cannot sew, y'all. I manage to mess up even the simplest of projects. But God damn, it's 2021 and I want to make all my floral circle skirt dreams come true.
